A Promax Award Winner

I have a wonderful update. Remember how excited I was last year, when I collaborated with MultiChoice in their Most Loved Storyteller campaign with my poem, “Ten Thousand Stories“? Since then, our collaboration which was produced by Studio Zoo, was awarded not one but TWO Promax Africa Awards! The Promax Awards are “the world’s premier celebration of outstanding achievement in entertainment marketing and design.” We won the Gold Mama Africa Award 2020 and the Gold Best Image Promo on Television on VOD Platforms Award 2020.

I’m really proud of our work and it was very cool to read what MultiChoice had to say about the win: “This creative masterpiece, which is the brainchild of poet and writer Lebohang Masango, perfectly captures our unique journey to share truly African stories across the continent and with the rest of the world, and we are thrilled that this has been properly recognised,” said Yolisa Phahle, MultiChoice Group CEO for General Entertainment & Connected Video.

The trophy arrived three weeks ago and the delivery found me doing my usual: sitting and writing. It was important for me to document my feelings immediately, as I did on my Instagram, because I was wading in the sea of my PhD proposal work and feeling all of the ups and downs of emotion that come with such a huge intellectual undertaking. That delivery had honestly made my day and reminded me that I am actually a very capable person – imposter syndrome be damned! Towards the end of the video I say, “this is my life and I do it well”. What an affirmation. This is my life and I am making the best of it; word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, page by page, book by book. I even managed to submit my PhD proposal last week. It took a year and a half longer than it was supposed to but I am very tender with myself. We are in a pandemic and I am doing my best.
